Dillon Gabriel says he was 'super blessed' to be at Oklahoma
From the jump, Dillon Gabriel embodied everything about what makes Oklahoma great.
The former UCF quarterback turned Sooners leader represented the program in phenomenal fashion, both on and off the field. Speaking with the media ahead of his team’s bowl showdown with the Florida State Seminoles, Gabriel elaborated on how “blessed” he feels to have spent time in Norman.
“I really had no expectations going in, other than just trusting God and the path he has for me,” stated Gabriel. “Just super blessed to be in this position. Learned a lot this year, about myself but also the journey of life. Ups and downs.
“Just grateful for the whole journey, because I truly feel I’ve gotten stronger and learned a lot in this process. Just to be standing here is a blessing.”
Additionally, Gabriel spoke about how he’s grown as a quarterback, believing his experiences have made him a better player.
“Grown a bunch. Just learned a lot about myself. A lot about this team. Grown in many ways, both on and off the field,” answered the Oklahoma quarterback. “Putting myself in times that are a little uncomfortable. I think through adversity and challenges you grow stronger.

“I think learning from those, as a quarterback with all these experiences, you make sure to try not to make the same mistake twice. I think putting yourself in those positions help you in the long run.”
In 2022, Gabriel battled through injuries to amass 2,925 passing yards, 24 passing touchdowns and only six interceptions for the Sooners. He also rushed for 298 yards and five touchdowns on the season.
Alas, Oklahoma faithful will always look at Dillon Gabriel in a positive light. While the Sooners may not have achieved all the goals they wanted to in 2022, he’s helped lay a solid foundation for the future of the program.
