Oklahoma head basketball coach Porter Moser announced a move on his coaching staff on Wednesday. Moser is promoting Emanuel Dildy to associate head coach, he shared in a release.

Dildy has been on staff at OU since April of 2021. He was previously on staff under Moser at Loyola Chicago.

In addition to coaching at Loyola Chicago and Oklahoma, Dildy has also spent time at Northwestern, Missouri and Valparaiso in his career.

Moser made the move thanks to Dildy’s ability to recruit and develop wings, while also doing a solid job with scouting reports, according to a release.

The Sooners had a disappointing season in 2022-23, finishing 15-17. However, Dildy did a nice job of bringing talent to the roster.

Point guard Milos Uzan signed with Oklahoma after being ranked as the No. 86 overall player in the country for the class of 2022, according to the On3 Industry rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. Uzan had an impressive freshman season, appearing in all 32 games, while making 24 starts. He was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.

Dildy also helped Oklahoma land Otega Oweh, who was ranked as the No. 76 overall player in the country for the class of 2022, according to the On3 Industry rankings.

Oklahoma, Porter Moser added experienced assistant to staff

Promoting Emanuel Dildy isn’t the only move Porter Moser made to his coaching staff this offseason.

In April, the Sooners hired away Armon Gates from Oregon.

Gates previously coached with Moser at Loyola-Chicago from 2011-13.

He is the younger brother of current Missouri head coach Dennis Gates, who had a tremendous first season with the Tigers.

The veteran assistant coach was most recently with Nebraska before his gig at Oregon. He spent four seasons as an assistant at Nebraska, where he helped develop second-round pick Dalano Banton and All-Big Ten honoree Cam Mack.

Before his time at Nebraska, Armon Gates served as the associate head coach at Florida under coach Mike White for a few weeks.

He had a longer stint at Northwestern under Chris Collins prior to that, working with the Wildcats from 2013-18. That was just after he served on Moser’s staff at Loyola-Chicago.

Prior to his Loyola-Chicago stint, Gates spent the 2010-11 season as an assistant coach at TCU. He was at Kent State from 2008-10 before that.

Armon Gates began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Western Kentucky.

Oklahoma is coming off a little bit of a disappointing season in Moser’s second year in charge, with the team finishing just 15-17, below .500 on the season. The Sooners were 5-13 in Big 12 play.
