As it turns out, Oklahoma was home after all for Lubbock (Texas) Cooper linebacker Kobie McKinzie.

Two weeks after decommitting from the Sooners following Lincoln Riley’s departure for USC — and only eight days after committing to Texas — McKinzie flipped his commitment back to the Sooners on Monday.

He is the No. 181 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 15 linebacker and the No. 35 prospect in Texas.

Following Riley’s abrupt exit, Texas and Missouri quickly offered the 6-foot-2, 245-pound McKinzie in the wake of his decommitment. He officially visited Austin over the weekend of December 4, and decided the Forty Acres was where he wanted to be.

However, Kobie McKinzie returned to Norman this weekend for a visit and met with new coach Brent Venables. That was enough to remind him why he initially picked the Sooners in the first place, it appears.

Fellow Sooners commit Robert Spears-Jennings reacted to the news soon after on Twitter with the caption “Roommate.”

After Kobie McKinzie, who can Oklahoma close with?

There are other names Oklahoma fans should be paying attention to over the next three days.

The Sooners also hosted Allen, Texas, four-star offensive lineman Neto Umeozulu on an official visit this past weekend. It appeared at one point that he was going to end up at TCU for a visit. But the Sooners rallied and got him on to campus. The RPM now lists Oklahoma as the favorites to land Umeozulu.

Another name to pay attention to is local four-star EDGE DeSean Brown of Choctaw, Okla. The previous OU staff wasn’t keen on Brown. But the new staff loves him and has put the full-court press on to land him. He, too, was on an official visit this weekend and the Sooners have a 95.3% chance to land him, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
