Despite head coach Lincoln Riley‘s recent departure, Littleton (Colo.) Valor Christian running back Gavin Sawchuk is sticking with Oklahoma, he announced on Sunday.

Sawchuk is the No. 79 prospect in the 2022 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 5 running back and the No. 1 prospect in Colorado.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder chose the Sooners is June over offers from Notre Dame, Ohio State, USC, and others. As a senior at Valor Christian, which reached the 5A state title game, Sawchuk rushed for 2,004 yards and 28 touchdowns on 287 carries.

Gavin Sawchuk is a key Oklahoma commit

Sawchuk is the third-highest rated Oklahoma commit after Lakeland (Fla.) five-star defensive lineman Gabriel Brownlow-Dindy and Tulsa (Okla.) Booker T. Washington four-star athlete Gentry Williams.

The class has seen some deterioration since Riley was hired away by USC on last weekend.

Lubbock (Texas) Lubbock-Cooper four-star linebacker Kobie McKinzie, Baltimore (Md.) St. Frances Academy four-star defensive lineman Derrick Moore and Orange (Texas) West-Orange Stark four-star interior offensive lineman Demetrius Hunter are the three players in the 2022 class who have decommitted from the Sooners so far.

After Sawchuk re-announced his commitment, four-star Sooners offensive tackle commit Jake Taylor tweeted his excitement. Taylor himself reaffirmed his commitment earlier this week.

Oklahoma still has 13 prospects committed for the 2022 class, with a class that ranks No. 11 in the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings.
