WATCH: Oklahoma releases hype video before Red River Rivalry vs. Texas
When it comes to Oklahoma football, nothing gets the blood pumping quite like the Red River Rivalry. Every year, the Sooners cross state lines, looking to defeat the arch-rival Texas Longhorns. They have been successful over the past four matchups and will be looking to make it five in Brent Venables’ first season.
To prepare for the moment, the official Oklahoma Football account posted a hype video. With the Golden Hat being shown throughout the video, commentary from some of the best moments the program has had against Texas was played.
Of course, the Golden Hat currently resides in Norman and has since the 2019 season. For Sooner fans, they’ll want the trophy coming back across the Red River with them on Saturday afternoon.
You can watch the full hype video here.
Venables will be stepping into the Cotton Bowl for the first time as a head coach. He does have plenty of experience going up against Texas, doing so for years as a defensive coordinator under Bob Stoops. After two straight losses in the Big 12, getting one over the Longhorns would be huge for Venables moving forward.

Brent Venables sounds off on Oklahoma injuries heading into Texas
Oklahoma took a beating against TCU, both on the scoreboard and on the injury front. The most notable Sooner to go down was quarterback Dillon Gabriel who entered concussion protocol after taking a hit while sliding down. Gabriel exited the game and was not able to return.
Head coach Brent Venables had the opportunity to give an update on Oklahoma’s injuries for the first time since Saturday but did not give much up. He said everything is “still up in the air” as far heading into Saturday’s Red River Showdown matchup against Texas.
“There’s some injury situations going on right now that are still up in the air,” Venables said.
When asked to go into further details specifically about Gabriel, Venables said he was not going to. However, he did say “we’ll have three quarterbacks taking reps this week.” That’s between Gabriel, Davis Beville, and General Booty.
For now, there’s been no decision made as to who will start.
