Jackson Arnold pressed on his future at Oklahoma
Jackson Arnold‘s future at Oklahoma has been questioned since the Sooners benched him in favor of true freshman Michael Hawkins earlier this season.
Arnold has since regained his QB1 status, but in the current age of college football it’s not always certain a player will return the following year if their spot isn’t guaranteed. He addressed the talk on social media surrounding a potential move this offseason after pracrtice on Monday.
“I mean, I don’t look at anything ever,” Arnold said regarding the noise on social media. “I stay in my lane. Istay focused — I have Snapchat. I talk to my friends, talk to my family, call them and talk to my girlfriend. But other than that, I don’t go into any social media.
“Regarding my future, I just — we’ve got two great teams left that we’ve got to go against I’m just taking it week by week.”
Arnold has completed 131 of 214 passes (61.2%) for 1,234 yards and 12 touchdowns compared to three interceptions this season. He’s played in eight of OU’s 10 games this season.

However, his head coach, Brent Venables, praised Arnold after the decision the bench him earlier this season.
“Jackson’s going to have an amazing future and career,” Brent Venables said at the time. “He’s going to play this game a long time and all of that will work itself out in due time.”
Whether that career and future is in Norman, Oklahoma remains to be seen. However, the transfer portal has shaped the Sooners’ quarterback room over the last decade dating back to Kyler Murray. Along with him, Jalen Hurts, Spencer Rattler and Caleb Williams all utilized the portal to either transfer in or out of the OU program.
On the surface, however, that doesn’t appear to be on the sophomore quarterback’s mind. For now, he’s looking forward to leading his Sooners into battle against No. 10 Alabama on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET and will air live on ABC.
