Following the game, Nicklaus spoke with the television broadcast crew about the special moment.
It was just the second ever NCAA walk-off victory at Globe Life Field. And what a moment it was for Nicklaus and the Sooners.
“Man, I don’t even know. I mean, I missed a fastball. He’s a great pitcher. He got me with a changeup yesterday. I had a good idea that it was coming. Was able to compete and get a swing on it.” Nicklaus said, clearly out of breath from the final moments.
The Oklahoma Sooners have had the best offense in the Big 12 all season long. What is it about this group that makes it work? “It’s just resiliency, you know. We all believe in each other. And we know at the end of the day, we’re gonna come through. We’ve been tested. We’ve been tested throughout the whole year. And yeah, just believe in each other,” Nicklaus explained.

How would he describe the work of the Sooners’ bullpen on Friday night? “They were incredible. Without them, we wouldn’t be in this game. They kept a lot of zeroes up on the board. But yeah, man, I’m just pretty happy right now,” the OU star smiled.
The Sooners will now have a chance to play for the 2024 Big 12 Tournament Championship. When did he realize that this year’s team had the chance to be special? “We’ve known from the jump. I mean, we’ve been really confident the entire time. Even the ups and the downs, we’ve stayed right here. And that’s pretty much it. We had a pretty good idea all along that we could be special and now we’re just finally being able to go out and put it out on the field,” Nicklaus said.
With the win, Oklahoma advances to the Big 12 Championship Game, where they will face the winner of the UCF-Oklahoma State game.
