Jamarrien Burt breaks down his Oklahoma commitment
Ocala (Fla.) Forest cornerback Jamarrien Burt has committed and signed with Oklahoma. The 6-foot, 178-pound three-star committed to Florida early in the process and he thought about committing to Utah, but that was before the official visit to Norman.
During the visit to Oklahoma on Jan. 21, things changed for Burt.
“In the middle of the visit, I knew I was going to Oklahoma,” Burt said. “I liked Utah a lot, but I will just say it – I liked Oklahoma more.
“I feel Oklahoma is the best opportunity for me. Both on and off the field, Oklahoma will set me up for success.”
The Sooners see Burt as a versatile defensive back. They are bringing him as a nickel, but they have discussed moving him around at cornerback and safety as well.
Safties coach Brandon Hall is Burt’s lead recruiter and Brent Venables brought Hall on board from Troy. Burt is a big believer in the new leader of the Sooners.

“Coach Venables is a stand-up guy, a people’s person, and a coach with a lot of energy. He knows how to have fun with energy, but he can simmer down and keep it real.
“The fans love him and everyone believes in him. He is very genuine and I am excited about playing for him.”
The coaches, the facilities, the people, and the education all impressed Burt at Oklahoma. He feels those in Norman are going to set him up for life.
“This is the start of my dream coming true,” Burt said. “My ultimate dream is to be successful. Of course, I want to get to the NFL, but I know Oklahoma will make me successful on and off the field.”
