His salary will increase by $100,000 annually over the three-year span. He was announced as the Sooners’ GM on Feb. 26.
In his new role as Oklahoma football’s new GM, Nagy will work alongside Sooners head coach Brent Venables “to construct a roster capable of competing at a championship level,” according to the press release which anounced his hire. Nagy will specifically lead Oklahoma’s roster management and talent acquisition, including player recruitment, evaluation, retention and compensation as part of his new duties.
“This is a new era in intercollegiate athletics at one of the greatest college football programs in the country,” Nagy said in the release. “The legacy of excellence that precedes my arrival is a testament to the leadership at OU and the university’s commitment to execute at a championship level.
“I am honored to bring my experience and work ethic to this program and am confident that through collaboration and effort, we can achieve excellent results. I am truly excited to get to Norman and begin our process with Coach Venables and his great staff.”

The release also noted other specific aspects of the program he will be in charge of. Nagy will also manage the Sooners’ handling of all rules governing name, image and likeness (NIL), the transfer portal process, revenue-share allocation, scholarship limits and eligibility requirements, per the statement.
Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables also commented on the impact of Nagy’s hire on the OU football program. Venables noted the degree of difficulty that surrounds maintaing roster management in the modern age of college athletics, and explained why Nagy is the right man to lead that charge for the Sooners.
“The work required to manage a roster, including contract negotiations, player evaluation, strategic planning, recruiting, and retention, requires full-time focus and skill sets,” Venables said in the statement. “Nagy’s high-caliber, extensive experience in scouting, recruiting, and retaining top talent will pay dividends across our roster and ultimately on the field. I look forward to working alongside him and Athletics Director Castiglione as we look ahead to great things for OU football.”
Oklahoma will kick off its new season at home against Illinois State on Aug. 30. Their 2025 college football schedule features the likes of Michigan in the non-conference, as well as SEC foes Texas, Tennessee, Alabama and South Carolina, among others.
