One of the best players to ever participate in the Red River Rivalry between Oklahoma and Texas has chimed in about this weekend’s battle in Dallas.

Adrian Peterson, a Texas native, former Oklahoma running back and ultimate first round draft selection in 2006, threw his full support behind his Sooners using a compilation of highlights from his time at the Cotton Bowl.

Peterson averaged nearly six yards per carry against the Longhorns in his three years at Oklahoma, carrying the ball a total of 60 times for 344 yards and a touchdown.

Overall, Peterson had one of the more decorated college football careers of the 21st century. As a freshman in 2004 he broke the rookie rushing record, posting 1,925 yards. He broke 1,000 rushing yards in each of his three years in Norman despite playing in just seven games in 2006 after suffering a broken collarbone when taking the ball into the end zone for a touchdown against Iowa State.

Sooners offense looking for repeat performance

For the first time since a victory over Western Carolina on Sept. 11, Oklahoma’s offense looked like a version of its old self last weekend in a 37-31 victory over Kansas State. Oklahoma will look to get running back Kennedy Brooks rushing like Peterson once did against the Longhorns on Saturday to continue that offensive performance from last week.

To date, the Sooners ground game is the worst it has been since 2010, averaging just 155 yards per game on the ground behind a struggling offensive line.

There is certainly precedent for an offensive explosion in Dallas. Oklahoma has three-straight victories over Texas and has averaged 535 yards of offense in their last six meetings with the Longhorns.

Oklahoma is a 3-point favorite for the game which kicks off at 11:00 a.m. CT on ABC.
