When Oklahoma football opens Big 12 play against West Virginia on Saturday, the Sooners will come decked out in special uniforms. In a video released on Twitter, Oklahoma showed off its “Rough Rider” uniforms.

Offensive lineman Marcus Hayes Jr. models the uniforms, which feature designs on the jerseys, helmets and gloves that create a fall camping feel.

The No. 4 Sooners are coming off of a 23-16 home victory against Nebraska. The Mountaineers could be their toughest test yet. They lost to Maryland in the season opener but took out No. 15 Virginia Tech this past week.

Running back Leddie Brown rushed for 161 yards and a touchdown in the win. He did not get a chance to play against Oklahoma in 2020 after the game was canceled because of COVID-19 concerns.

The Mountaineers defense, which claimed the top spot in the Big 12 this past season, is the real test. They look fierce once again with defensive lineman Dante Stills and linebacker Jared Bartlett leading the charge. WVU has allowed opponents an average of just 100.7 rushing yards and recorded 3.3 sacks per game.

With the ground game likely to run into some trouble, the Sooners will look to lean on quarterback Spencer Rattler a bit more. The redshirt sophomore entered the season as a Heisman candidate but while solid hasn’t dazzled the way fans hoped he would. A strong performance and a win in the conference opener could propel him back into the spotlight.

Oklahoma is 8-0 against West Virginia since the Mountaineers joined the Big 12 in 2012. It enters this game as a 17-point favorite with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. EST in front of a home crowd in Norman.

The Sooners have won the past six Big 12 championships and are most experts’ pick to take a seventh. That all begins Saturday as Oklahoma will wear these new uniforms and look to improve their win streak against the Mountaineers.
