Louisiana Tech transfer tight end John Locke committed to Oklahoma, he announced via social media Wednesday night. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.

Locke spent three years with Louisiana Tech, taking a redshirt as a freshman in 2022 when he made three appearances. He was a key contributor on special teams during his time with the Bulldogs, but also totaled three receptions for six yards.

Locke played high school football at Helotes (TX) O’Connor and officially entered the transfer portal on Dec. 9. He will join a growing Oklahoma portal class, which is now at 14 players.

The On3 Transfer Portal Instagram account and X account are excellent resources to stay up to date with the latest moves.

Oklahoma made two splashes in the portal this week, landing former Florida State EDGE Marvin Jones Jr. and former Oklahoma State safety Kendal Daniels. They join a group of newcomers headlined by Washington State transfer quarterback John Mateer – the No. 1-ranked player to hit the open market this cycle, according to the On3 Industry Transfer Rankings.

OU is also trending for another former Oklahoma State player. On3’s Pete Nakos and Steve Wiltfong placed a prediction in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) for the Sooners to land Jeff Roberson. He officially entered the portal on Monday.

Roberson finished this past season with a career-high 58 total tackles, including 8.5 for loss, along with three sacks, one interception and one pass defended. He appeared in 42 games across his five seasons in Stillwater, going from a special teams contributor to the team’s third-leading tackler in 2024.

As a recruit, Roberson was a three-star prospect out of Choctaw (OK) High School in 2020. He ranked as the No. 877 overall player and No. 97 linebacker in the cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Oklahoma had a rough go through its first season in the SEC, finishing 6-7 overall and 2-6 in league play. Brent Venables made some staff changes, though, notably landing former Washington State offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle to run the show. His familiarity with Mateer is sure to be something to watch in 2025.

However, Venables also found himself needing another coordinator. Zac Alley left after one year as defensive coordinator to reunite with Rich Rodriguez at West Virginia. On3 previously reported names to watch in that search, and Sooner Scoop’s Georgia Stoia III had the latest on whether Jim Knowles could be involved.
