Oklahoma football now knows what to expect during its first season in the SEC, as the 2024 conference schedule was announced Wednesday on SEC Network. The Sooners have a gauntlet ahead of them, as they are set to face Alabama, LSU and Tennessee among others.

The SEC revealed at the beginning of June that it will stick with an eight-game schedule in 2024 despite debate about adding a ninth game upon bringing in OU and Texas. ESPN’s Chris Lowe reported Wednesday that each of the 14 existing teams will face at least one of the Sooners or Longhorns.

Two games on Oklahoma’s schedule were known before the announcement. Of course, the Sooners will continue their annual Red River Rivalry game with Texas upon joining the SEC. However, it was also revealed they are slated to host Alabama.

You can view the full 2024 SEC schedule for Oklahoma below. It features four road games, three home games and a neutral site game for the Red River Rivalry against the Longhorns.

The home matchup against Tennessee is perhaps one of the most intriguing on the schedule because of Volunteers coach Josh Heupel. A former Sooners quarterback, Heupel lead OU to its last national championship in 2000.

Heupel later become the quarterbacks coach in 2006 and held that position for nine seasons. However, he was fired following an 8-5 finish in 2014. Last year, he led Tennessee to its first 10-win season since 2007 and his return to normal will be sure to bring out plenty of emotions.

Elsewhere, the Sooners draw LSU, which defeated them in both the 2003 BCS National Championship and a 2019 College Football Playoff semifinal, on the road. That, along the with matchup against Nick Saban and Alabama, looks like one of its toughest draws of all. The Tigers won the SEC West title in 2022 and are sure to keep building momentum under second-year coach Brian Kelly.

Finally, OU will also get a former Big 12 foe in Missouri, which it will also play on the road. The Sooners hold a 67-24-5 all-time record against Mizzou, including a 38-28 win in the most recent meeting in 2011.

All this in mind, it’s shaping up to be a challenging, but exciting, first season in the SEC for Oklahoma.
