New Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables is continuing to put together his inaugural staff in Norman. Currently making some support staff hires, Venables is expected to bring on Matt Holecek – Ole Miss’ assistant quarterbacks coach – to be an analyst, per On3’s Matt Zenitz.

Holecek, who just completed his second season at Ole Miss, worked with Rebels’ offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby – who’s now in the same role at Oklahoma – and coached standout quarterback Matt Corral while in Oxford on Lane Kiffin’s staff.

Prior to joining Ole Miss’ staff, Holecek was an offensive analyst at Missouri. He joins an Oklahoma program that went 11-2 this past season and capped their campaign with a win over Oregon in the Alamo Bowl.

Roy Williams had 287 tackles and 44 pass breakups during his Oklahoma career. His 44 pass breakups rank second in Oklahoma history, behind Derrick Strait. His career tackle total ranks third in the Sooners’ record books among DBs.

Williams’ name will live on in Oklahoma football lore for centuries after the “Superman Play.” The defensive back caused a fumble in the Red River Shootout, leading to a Sooners victory over the Longhorns in 2001.

After opting to enter the NFL Draft early, Williams went No. 8 overall to the Dallas Cowboys in 2002. He played seven seasons for Dallas before wrapping up his career as a Cincinnati Bengal in 2010.

Roy Williams joins LSU’s Kevin Faulk, Penn State’s Lavar Arrington and Georgia’s Champ Bailey.

The 2022 College Football Hall of Fame Class induction ceremony takes place during the 64th NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 6.
