Oklahoma coach Cale Gundy praises Sooners on Men's College World Series berth
Oklahoma Baseball is grabbing the attention of the entire Sooner sports community. Their run to the College World Series earned praise from Cale Gundy, the wide receivers coach for the Oklahoma football team. Here’s his congratulatory message to the baseball club, via Twitter:
Quite the weekend for OU baseball. The Sooners took care of business in the Gainesville regional (hosted by nationally-seeded Florida) last week and then headed to Blacksburg for a super-regional series vs. 4th-seeded Virginia Tech. A tall order to take down a top-four team in two of three games on their home field. Not for the Sooners, though.
They punched the Hokies in the mouth out of the gate by winning Friday’s opening game of the series 5-4 to take control. Their pitching took one on the chin during game two on Saturday. Virginia Tech rebounded to pummel the Sooners 14-8 to even the series at 1-1. But Oklahoma didn’t hang their heads or hats after the embarrassing defensive performance in game two. Instead, they rallied to put together their best performance of the postseason. Perhaps the most complete game of their whole season. In a win or die situation, the Sooners came out, on the road, vs. the no. 4 overall seed, and smacked the Hokies silly. 11-2 was the final score as Oklahoma stormed to a College World Series berth.
Oklahoma is going to Omaha. Ole Miss made the terrible pun OleMaha. So why not OklahOmaha? Yes, it’s just as bad and probably worse than Ole Miss’s feeble attempt at a pun. So what? Let’s get stupid, Sooners. Party in eastern Nebraska next week for Oklahoma baseball.

Updated look at the College World Series bracket with two spots still up for grabs
Six teams have already advanced to Omaha. Notre Dame punched its ticket with a victory in Game 3 over Tennessee, while Arkansas took down North Carolina and Texas defeated East Carolina on Sunday. Ole Miss also advanced to Omaha on Sunday, picking up a Super Regional sweep over Southern Miss. Texas A&M was the first team to punch its ticket, sweeping Louisville and wrapping up that Super Regional on Saturday.
On Monday, two more tickets will be punched and the College World Series bracket will be finalized. Stanford and UConn kick things off with a 4 p.m. ET first pitch on ESPN 2. Auburn and Oregon State then face off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN 2 later on Monday night. The winner of those two games will advance to Omaha and will continue their trek towards a national title on Saturday.
Once the College World Series begins, it will be just like a traditional regional format. The eight teams in Omaha will be split into two different brackets. From there, in each bracket the winners of the opening games will face off in the winners bracket, while the losers will look to stave off elimination in the losers bracket. The opening weekend of the College World Series will be double elimination, and the two teams to advance out of their respective brackets will advance to the championship round.
