Oklahoma DC Ted Roof takes blame for 'everything that went wrong' defensively against Kansas State
Oklahoma left Saturday disappointed with a 41-34 home loss to Kansas State. After dismantling Nebraska the week before, they couldn’t buy a stop against the Wildcats. To defensive coordinator Ted Roof, he places a lot of blame on the preparation and, in turn, himself.
Roof opened his press conference on Monday by addressing the defensive shortcomings from this weekend. He says they place their focus on three ideas each and every week and they did none of the three well against Kansas State.

“It’s something we focus on every week and we fell short last week. But our approach each and every week is to be a physical football team, tackle well, and limit yardage after contact,” said Roof. “We didn’t do that. We didn’t do a very good job of that the other night.”
Kansas State scored double digits in three of the four quarters a week after hanging just 10 points in a loss to Tulane. The Wildcats also possessed the football for over 35 minutes as the Sooners were unable to get them off the field. Adrian Martinez was a force with 234 yards and a touchdown through the air and four scores as a rusher. For those counting at home, that means Martinez alone accounted for all five of K-State’s trips to the end zone. That’s not even to mention 116 rushing yards for Deuce Vaughn in the game as well.

In the end, Roof took complete blame for the defensive performance and the loss overall. He now wants to turn his attention to making the appropriate changes so it doesn’t happen again next weekend.
“Again, everything that went wrong was my fault,” Roof said. “I gotta help everybody get it fixed. That’s what we gotta do moving forward.”
After allowing just 30 points overall through three games, this was a significant drop-off for Oklahoma’s defense. With the Big 12 being as offensively focused as it is, Roof will need to make his adjustments quickly and have his defense ready to rebound this weekend at TCU.
