Oklahoma defensive lineman Champ Sanders has entered the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos reported. He spent the past two seasons with the Sooners and will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Sanders appeared in nine games this past season after playing three and taking a redshirt as a true freshman. He recorded two tackles and 0.5 sacks across his career in limited action.

Sanders played high school football for Cathedral in Los Angeles, California, where he was a three-star recruit in the 2023 class. He ranked as the No. 573 overall player and No. 62 defensive lineman in the cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Sanders chose Oklahoma over offers from Notre Dame, Utah, Wisconsin and others during his high school recruitment. It will be interesting to see whether any of those teams come into play now that he has entered the transfer portal.

Sanders is the 23rd Oklahoma player to enter the transfer portal since it opened a little over a week ago, an alarming number that ranks the Sooners 69th out of 70 teams in On3’s Transfer Portal Team Rankings. They’ve brought in only one player to make up for those losses so far.

OU is coming off of a 6-6 finish in the third season under coach Brent Venables and went 2-6 in SEC competition in its first year as a league member. The Sooners are in for some drastic changes next year on their roster, and will need to be active in attacking the portal.

The transfer portal officially opened Dec. 7 and will remain open until Dec. 28, though players on teams still playing in the postseason will get an additional five-day window to enter the portal after their seasons end.
