The summer of commitments continues for the Oklahoma football program.

On Thursday, Oklahoma City (Okla.) Heritage Hall three-star athlete Andy Bass was the latest to commit to Sooners.

The 5-foot-10, 197-pound prospect with legitimate sub-4.4-second 40-yard dash speed chose the Sooners over Syracuse, and Kansas State.

Bass is currently unranked in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. However, two other recruiting sites have him ranked as a three-star prospect and among the top 10 recruits in the state of Oklahoma.

He visited the Sooners twice this summer, stopping in Norman in June and then again at the end of July.

Bass is the 20th commitment in the 2024 cycle for the Sooners, who currently rank No. 16 in the On3 Industry Football Team Recruiting Rankings.

As a junior for Heritage Hall, he played quarterback in his first year of organized football. He completed 200 of 319 passes for more than 2,800 yards and 28 touchdowns. Bass also rushed for 970 yards and 17 touchdowns on just 125 carries, totaling more than 3,800 all-purpose yards.

Sooners get a do-it-all athlete with Bass

When he visited Norman for the second time in late July, Bass got a chance to sit down with offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby and runnings back coach Demarco Murray. They both believe he can be a versatile weapon in OU’s offensive scheme.

“I got to meet with Coach (Jeff) Lebby and Murray about their vision for me. I really enjoyed my time,” Bass told SoonerScoop.com. “I’d be playing quarterback, running back, wide receiver depending on field positioning. I would be in different packages and there would be lots of motion to get me one-on-one.”

OU already has a pair of running back commits with high four-star Taylor Tatum and fellow in-state star Xavier Robinson out of Midwest City Carl Albert.

The Sooners also have one of the country’s pass-catching groups committed with a trio of four-star receivers (Zion Ragins, Zion Kearney and Ivan Carreon) along with elite tight end Davon Mitchell.

More good news on the way?

Oklahoma’s coaching staff hopes Bass’ commitment is just the start of a run on commitments in the next few weeks. Five-Star Plus+ defensive lineman David Stone is set to announce his decision on Saturday, with Miami and Michigan State as the two main contenders. But the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine heavily favors the Sooners.

Two more top defensive line targets are also set to commit in the next 15 days, as five-star Dominick McKinley (Sept. 1) and four-star Nigel Smith (Sept. 8) make their decisions.
