The Oklahoma Sooners softball team simply continues their march towards perfection. If the Sooners can win on Thursday night, they’ll become just the second team in college softball history to claim three straight national crowns. Game 2 between Florida State and Oklahoma was tied up at 0-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Sooners head coach Patty Gasso took some time to speak with ESPN’s Holly Rowe about the performance of her pitcher, Alex Storako, in Game 2 of the 2023 Women’s College World Series.

First, she discussed her team trying to settle down vs. Kathryn Sandercock of Florida State, one of the best pitchers in college softball. “Well, we’re facing a very good pitcher. So, it’s hard to get momentum off of her. She spots the ball up so well. We had bases loaded. They got out of it. But we hit the ball hard. We take that as a win. Jayda Coleman’s play was a win for us. So, we’re just getting wins within the game to try to create some kind of momentum,” Gasso said on Thursday night.

Oklahoma rolled out pitcher Alex Storako on the mound on Thursday vs. the Seminoles. It was almost her third time through the FSU lineup in the fourth inning. How much longer did Gasso want the Seminoles to face her? “I don’t know. I think we’re just kind of waiting for our offense to do something as well. But she’s doing a good job. She’s keeping us in this game. So far so good,” Gasso said.

The Sooners finally put two runs on the board in the fifth inning with back-to-back home runs. Oklahoma currently leads Florida State 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning. The Sooners made a switch to Jordy Bahl at pitcher in the bottom of the fifth inning. We’ll see if she can close the game out and punch Oklahoma’s ticket to college softball immortality.

Oklahoma softball has been downright unstoppable

Oklahoma’s current winning streak stands at 52 consecutive games. If they can bring home the national crown on Thursday night, it will be the seventh national championship in program history. It would also be the sixth national title they’ve won in the past decade. That’s not even mentioning that they would become just the second team in college softball history to win three straight national crowns. The Sooners would join the UCLA Bruins in rarified air. They accomplished the feat back in 1988-1990.
