Oklahoma infielder Patrick Engskov enters NCAA Transfer Portal
The Oklahoma Sooners baseball roster just got a little thinner. On Thursday, it was announced that infielder Patrick Engskov has entered the NCAA transfer portal and is searching for a new home for the 2025 season.
Engskov played sparingly in 2024, seeing more action a season ago in 2023. Last year, he played in 11 games while making two starts. However, he did not start as an infielder but rather as a designated hitter.

This season, Engskov appeared in just eight games, making 11 plate appearances, and it wasn’t a good season for his batting, to put it lightly. In those 11 appearances, he was credited with nine at-bats and only earned one hit, scoring one run. His inability to get on base left him with a batting average of .111 and an OPS of .384. The slight increase in OPS was due to his other two plate appearances ending in walks.
While the numbers don’t look appealing for Engskov, there is one bright spot you can look at from this year’s at-bats. The Oklahoma DH only struck out once in his eleven plate appearances, showcasing his ability to be patient and work the opposing pitcher.

As for Oklahoma, with the university heading to arguably the toughest conference in college baseball, the SEC, they must quickly revamp and retool their roster. The Sooners finished Big 12 play as the best team in the conference with an overall record of 40-21 and 23-7 in conference play. The Sooners finished the year as regular season champs but lost to in-state rival the Oklahoma State Cowboys in the Big 12 tournament championship game 9-3, preventing them from being double champions of the 2024 season.
Once in the SEC, Oklahoma will have to lock horns and do battle with four of the eight teams in Omaha, NE, currently battling for the 2024 College World Series title on a yearly basis: Tennessee, Texas A&M, Kentucky, and Florida. And that list excludes the last four College World Series champions who also reside in the conference: LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt.
