Four-star Edge Colton Vasek of Austin (TX) Westlake High announced his commitment to Oklahoma Monday afternoon.
The 6-foot-6, 230-pounder chose the Sooners over Texas, Oregon, Clemson, and Texas Tech.
Vasek on why he chose Oklahoma
“Many things stand out to me about Oklahoma,” Vasek said. “The relationships with Coach V, Coach Chavis, and Coach Bates were very strong. They have been pouring into me since January and the trust and level of comfort with them is second to none. Next would probably be the relationships created with the current defensive line at Oklahoma. Coach Venables has coached in 8 national championships and the new culture he is creating at Oklahoma is something I want to be a part of. At the end of the day, when I removed school colors, mascots, etc, it was a very tough decision, but this felt right to me.”
Oklahoma visits stood out to Vasek
“Every visit I had up there went great,” Vasek said. “ I really enjoyed getting to be around some commits and other recruits. Originally I didn’t think that I would commit on this trip, but once I got there I knew this was where I was supposed to be. The interaction was great, everyone was super happy.”

Colton Vasek Scouting Summary
“Productive pass rusher for perennial Texas powerhouse program Austin Westlake,” On3’s Director of Scouting Charles Power wrote. “Helped lead his team to a state championship by tallying 56 tackles and 10 sacks during his junior campaign. Stands in at a filled-out 6-foot-5, 225 pounds. Possesses average length for an edge rusher despite his height. Strong at the point of attack. Does an excellent job using his hands to stack and shed in the run game. Much more power than you would think for his size.”
“Threw nearly 50 feet in the shot put and just over 160 feet in the discus as a junior. Natural pass rusher with a wide array of pass rush moves. Burst and get off are solid coming off the line of scrimmage. High floor prospect who will be a significant role player at the next level and has a chance to become a draft pick if he can add quality mass to his frame and maintain his athleticism. Father, Brian Vasek, played along the defensive line for the University of Texas from 1991 to 1995.”
Vasek ranks as the No. 174 player in the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that accounts for all four major recruiting sites. He also tabs in as the No. 24 edge and the No. 32 player in the state of Texas.
