Oklahoma has landed Pitt State tight end Will Huggins out of the NCAA transfer portal, the program announced Saturday afternoon. Huggins will be one of the bigger bodies on the Sooners’ roster in 2025, hoping to be a good weapon for quarterback John Mateer.

Per the On3 Transfer Portal Industry Rankings, Huggins is a three-star prospect this cycle. He squeaks into the top-100 at his position as the No. 98 tight end. Overall, Huggins is at No. 1,958 as head coach Brent Venables is looking for some value with this portal pickup.

Now making his way to Norman, this will be the sixth season of college football Huggins has played. His career began with the Kansas Jayhawks, committing to the in-state program out of high school. Four years in Lawrence was spent before heading to Pitt State in search of playing time.

Huggins played in 11 games this past season, having 22 receptions for 395 yards and a touchdown. Nov. 2 against Central Missouri was his best performance of the year, having season highs in both catches and yards at three and 89.

Tight end has turned into a real position of need for Oklahoma — any type of production is welcomed into the position room. Huggins will join what should be a revamped Sooners offense for the 2024 season.

Huggins played high school football at Overland Park (KS) Shawnee Mission South, where he was a three-star prospect. He was the No. 1,076 overall recruit in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Oklahoma loses defensive lineman to NCAA transfer portal

Oklahoma defensive lineman Davon Sears plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he announced Friday night after the Armed Forces Bowl. He spent two years with the Sooners after coming in from Texas State and the JUCO level.

Sears appeared in four games this season for OU. He totaled four tackles during that time, including two tackles for loss and a sack, and did not play in Friday’s bowl game.

Sears initially declared for the NFL Draft after his college career ended. But in light of the NCAA’s decision to grant a waiver to JUCO products with one more year of eligibility in 2025, he’s hitting the open market.
