Oklahoma linebacker Shane Whitter will enter the NCAA transfer portal after spending four seasons in Norman, Okla.

He announced his intentions on social media on Tuesday evening.

“With gratitude, I’m entering the transfer portal as a Grad Transfer for my final 2 years of eligibility,” Whitter wrote. “While I’m excited for the journey ahead, Oklahoma will always hold a special place in my heart. Boomer!”

Whitter appeared in 39 games over four seasons at Oklahoma. His biggest contributions came as a sophomore in 2021, when he recorded27 tackles, 2.0 tackles for a loss and a fumble recovery.

In total, he finished with 48 tackles, 3.5 tackles for a loss, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup.

He has lost some time to injury, as well. Whitter played in just four games in 2022 before suffering a season-ending injury. He found it hard to break into the regular defensive rotation under new coach Brent Venables as a result.

While Shane Whitter played in 13 games during the 2023 season, he did so appearing primarily on special teams.

Thus he’s made the decision to seek playing time elsewhere.

“First and foremost, thank you God for guiding me to where I am today,” Whitter wrote. “I would like to thank Sooner nation for an unforgettable chapter at Oklahoma!

“It has been an honor to work alongside the exceptional coaches, teammates, and staff here who have helped me grow as a person and athlete. I am honored to have been able to call myself a sooner for four years and appreciate every step of my journey at OU.”

Prior to enrolling at Oklahoma and later hitting the NCAA transfer portal, Shane Whitter was a three-star prospect and the No. 426 overall recruit in the 2020 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Rankings.

He also checked in as the No. 43 linebacker in his class and the No. 14 overall player from the state of North Carolina, hailing from Burlington (NC) Walter M Williams.
