Oklahoma provides update on Dillon Gabriel status, still under evaluation
The Oklahoma Sooners provided a small update on the status of quarterback Dillon Gabriel after he did not play in Saturday’s loss to Texas. Gabriel entered concussion protocols after leaving the Sooners’ game against TCU a week ago after suffering a blow to the head while sliding to the ground in the second quarter.
Gabriel did not return to the game after the hit and did not play against Texas this week as he remained in concussion protocols and will continue to be evaluated daily.
“As for Dillion Gabriel, he’s still being evaluated, availability TBD,” explained The Athletic‘s Chris Vannini after Saturday’s game.

Prior to exiting their game against TCU with injury, Gabriel had racked up 1,215 passing yards and 11 passing touchdowns with zero interceptions. He also added another 126 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns — helping cement himself as a play-making quarterback for Oklahoma.
The hit where Gabriel was injured resulted in an ejection for TCU linebacker Jamoi Hodge, who lowered his shoulder into Gabriel’s helmet as he slid to the turf. After the late hit, Gabriel remained on the field for several minutes — and the official review for targeting was confirmed and Hodge was ejected.
