Toby Rowland, the voice of Oklahoma Sooners sports radio, has been dealing with a medical issue relating to his kidney. Now, luckily, he has shared a positive health update.

On Twitter/X, Rowland shared that he had a kidney surgically removed. Luckily, he should be back to full strength soon.

“Thank you for all the prayers! I’m now officially a member of the “one kidney club.” I’m sore & feel like I’ve been run over by the schooner, but I’ll be back to full strength soon,” Toby Rowland posted. “Huge thanks to Dr. Brad Wilson as well as Ritchie Splitt & his amazing team at @normanregional!”

Throughout the medical issues that Toby Rowland has been dealing with, he’s been very open with his health. Five weeks ago, he shared his initial kidney issues on Instagram in a post describing how he felt abdominal pain while doing yard work. That’s how he found out he had ruptured an artery in his right kidney and had required surgery to repair it.

“Friday afternoon while mowing the lawn I experienced sharp sudden pain in my abdomen that continued to worsen. My wife rushed me to the ER where they discovered a ruptured artery in my right kidney. A great team of doctors did emergency surgery last night to stop the bleeding. I’m resting comfortably. We will likely need a 2nd surgery either today or in coming days to figure out what to do with the kidney,” Rowland wrote.

“Thank you for all the prayers. My family & Sooner Nation is awesome!!! Obviously, vacation plans have been canceled. Just waiting to hear what’s next. Love you all! Boomer Sooner!!!”

Since then, naturally, there was an outpouring of support for Rowland from Oklahoma fans.

In the end, the doctors clearly decided it was best to remove the kidney. Hopefully, this means that a very scary situation is coming to an end and Toby Rowland can get back to the booth and back on the air to call Oklahoma athletics soon.

The college football season is right around the corner now. It’s also an incredibly important season in the history of the Oklahoma football program, with this being the first for the Sooners in the SEC. Oklahoma will open up the season on August 30th with a home game against the Temple Owls. Their first SEC game won’t come until September 21st, when Oklahoma welcomes the Tennessee Volunteers and former quarterback Josh Heupel back to Norman.
