Denton (Texas) Guyer five-star safety Peyton Bowen flipped to Oregon from Notre Dame yesterday in a National Signing Day shocker. On Thursday, Bowen flipped his commitment once again.

The 6-foot-0, 185-pound defensive back has committed and signed with Oklahoma. His decision elevated the Sooners’ 2023 recruiting class to No. 6 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings.

Oklahoma, whose class also ranks No. 2 in the Big 12, rose three spots from No. 9. Head coach Brent Venables and his staff have pledges from 25 players.

Bowen is the No. 13 overall prospect and No. 2 safety in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 3 player in Texas.

On3 rates Bowen higher than other recruiting services, per the Industry Comparison. According to the 2023 On300, he is the No. 2 player in Texas.

Bowen gives Oklahoma another talented blue-chip prospect

Landing Bowen adds more talent to one of the top recruiting classes in the country. The Sooners now have commitments from seven top-100 prospects. Three of them are five-stars.

That list includes Bowen, high school teammate and Five-Star Plus+ quarterback Jackson Arnold and Kansas City (Mo.) North Kansas City four-star EDGE Adepoju Adebawore. Other top-100 recruits pledged to Venables and Co. are Houston (Tex.) Langham Creek four-star wide receiver Jaquaize Pettaway, Lee’s Summit (Mo.) Lee’s Summit North four-star offensive tackle Cayden Green, Tallahassee (Fla.) Robert F Munroe Day School four-star safety Makari Vickers and Mustang (Okla.) four-star athlete Jacobe Johnson.

Oklahoma’s group is full of blue-chip talent, with 16 of their 25 signees rated a four-star or a five-star. The Sooners have three other commitments ranked in the top 200 of the On3 Consensus in Crandall (Tex.) four-star linebacker Samuel Omosigho, Tampa (Fla.) Tampa Catholic four-star linebacker Lewis Carter and Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola four-star defensive lineman Derrick LeBlanc.

By signing Bowen, Oklahoma safeties coach Brandon Hall gets a chance to work with one of the top high school safety prospects in the country. Additionally, the Sooners flipped South Bend (Ind.) St. Joseph’s four-star safety Daeh McCullough from Cincinnati on Dec. 12.
