There are few dynasties in all of sports over the years that have been quite as dominant as Oklahoma women’s softball. The Sooners are the queens of the sport. And they played like it yet again on Friday night, taking care of business against Florida State with a 4-2 win in the Norman Super Regional of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. With the win, the Sooners will be going to the 2024 Women’s College World Series for a chance to win their fourth straight national title.

Earlier this month, the Sooners dropped back-to-back games in Norman vs. Oklahoma State. It prevented OU from being the No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Tournament and most likely the No. 1 overall seed in the country.
But the Sooners didn’t hesitate to get back to their winning ways. They won the 2024 Big 12 Championship after taking down the Texas Longhorns. OU won that one 5-1, winning back-to-back Big 12 Tournament crowns. And they swept the Norman Regional on Friday night, eliminating Florida State for the third time in the last four seasons.

In the fifth inning on Friday night, the Sooners finally took control, scoring three runs. Freshman Kasidi Pickering launched a two-run blast to the opposite field. In the middle of the fifth inning, Oklahoma led FSU 4-1. OU star Jayda Coleman did what she has done so many times over the years for the Sooners. In the bottom of the fifth inning, she snatched a potential home run away from FSU’s Jaysoni Beachum. It’s one of many we’ve seen from her over the years.
It was a critical catch, because the Seminoles ended up hitting a home run later in the inning. On Thursday, OU dominated FSU 11-3 in six innings in Game 1 of the series. Oklahoma’s Alyssa Brito went 3-for-3 at the plate with two home runs in that one.
Oklahoma will play the winner of the Missouri-Duke Super Regional sometime on Thursday at Devon Park. The Blue Devils won the first game on Friday at Missouri.
