Texas was in control through the first six innings of Saturday’s Red River Rivalry game against Oklahoma. But just as they’ve done so many times over the years, the Sooners stepped up when it counted and got the win in thrilling fashion.

Oklahoma trailed 3-1 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, but after Rylie Boone led off with a single, Jayda Coleman stepped up to hit a game-tying home run. The Sooners then had the bases loaded with one out following a fielder’s choice, and Kinzie Hansen stepped up to deliver the game-winning single — completing the comeback to win the game, 4-3.

Oklahoma is now 32-1 on the season and will now search for the series sweep on Sunday. Texas, meanwhile, drops to 30-7-1.

Texas jumped out to the lead early in the game thanks to a second-inning error that allowed Reese Atwood to score the game’s first run. The Longhorns then added another thanks to another Oklahoma error that — after a successful challenge — gave them a 2-0 lead. But the Sooners fought back as they looked to avoid being shut out for the first time since 2019, and Coleman scored thanks to a Texas error to cut the deficit to 2-1.

It didn’t take long for the Longhorns to respond, though, as Viviana Martinez hit a solo home run with two outs in the inning to make it a two-run lead once again. That was in the top of the seventh, and Oklahoma got its rally going in the bottom half of the inning to get the victory.

Alex Storako started the game in the circle, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out six in 6.0 innings. Jordy Bahl came in to relieve her in the seventh inning and got the victory.

For Texas, Mac Morgan got the start and looked good early on. She threw six innings and faced three batters in the seventh, allowing seven hits and three earned runs on the day. Citlaly Gutierrez came on in relief and, after forcing a fielder’s choice, allowed the walk-off single to take the loss.

It was quite the follow-up to Friday’s game between Oklahoma and Texas. The Sooners won the game 8-1 at Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City — the site of last year’s Women’s College World Series between the two teams. They returned to Norman for the second game and will close things out Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.
