Oklahoma coaching search: Odds released on next head coach
In an unexpected turn of events, Lincoln Riley bolted from Oklahoma to become the next head coach of the USC Trojans. Now, the Sooners are tasked with undergoing unforeseen coaching search.
Riley was everything Oklahoma could’ve asked for and more. While a national championship eluded him, the Sooners dominated the Big 12 in his tenure. After Riley’s seamless transition from the legendary Bob Stoops, the Sooners will look to maintain their dominance once again.
According to oddsmakers, here’s who may be leading Oklahoma into their new era.
Next Oklahoma football coach odds:
- Brent Venables (+400)
- Lane Kiffin (+500)
- Mark Stoops (+500)
- Matt Campbell (+600)
- Luke Fickell (+700)
- Jay Norvell (+800)
- Bob Stoops (+900)
- Josh Heupel (+1000)
- Shane Beamer (+1100)
- Mario Cristobal (+1500)
- Dave Aranda (+1500)
- Kliff Kingsbury (+2000)
First, Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables leads the list. While Venables has been considered for multiple openings in the past, he’s always opted to return to the Tigers. Perhaps the Oklahoma job is the one that could lure him away.
Afterwards, a pair of SEC head coaches follow — Ole Miss’ Lane Kiffin and Kentucky’s Mark Stoops. Kiffin would bring his swagger and offensive prowess to Norman, while Stoops wouldn’t just be a tremendous story — the brother of Bob Stoops have proven to be a great coach in Lexington.

Moreover, two of the hottest names on the coaching carousel in Matt Campbell and Luke Fickell join the list, as well. The duo has been linked to multiple openings, and are ready for greener pastures at bigger programs.
Finally, the most shocking name on the list is Arizona Cardinals coach Kliff Kingsbury. Arguably the front-runner for the NFL’s Coach of the Year Award, it would be unprecedented for Kingsbury to leave for Norman.
The Oklahoma Sooners have always filled their head coaching position admirably. After the unforeseen event of Lincoln Riley’s departure, time will tell if they can do so once again.
