“The accomplishment belongs to the players,” said Oklahoma head coach Skip Johnson said following the Sooners’ championship-clinching win over Baylor. “You play one pitch at a time, that’s our mantra. We play one pitch at a time and one game at a time and that’s what we have to continue to do. That’s what we will continue to talk about, continue to work on, and continue to practice.”
Johnson became the first coach in Oklahoma baseball history to be named Big 12 Coach of the Year in his seventh season at the helm for the Sooners. Leading Oklahoma to a 34-18 record overall and a record 23 wins in conference play. Three Sooners also earned All-Big 12 First Team honors with two on the Second Team, six honorable mentions, and infielder Jaxon Willits earning a spot in the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.
Oklahoma and TCU remain scoreless in their second-round Big 12 Championship matchup, with things tied at 0-0 in a defensive battle through three innings.
