An all SEC affair is set to take place on Monday, with Alabama and Georgia facing off in the national championship. It will be the two program’s second meeting of the season after the Crimson Tide won the SEC Championship in December.

However, according to ESPN’s Paul Finebaum, the game is not even the biggest news story of the week. He says true freshman quarterback Caleb Williams entering the transfer portal should be stealing all of the headlines.

“This is the biggest story in college football this week. I know that sounds blasphemous considering we’re hyping up the national championship game. But we are in a place we’ve never been before. We’re out in the galaxies now trying to comprehend this. This is a college football player, who, by the way, didn’t even start the season as the starter – he was the backup to Spencer Rattler, who was the Heisman favorite. He beat (Rattler) out and now he said, ‘You know what? Lincoln Riley’s gone, I’m going to put myself up for bid,’ in essence, and he could end up making millions of dollars depending on where he goes.

“We are talking about college football here, and the president of the NCAA uses the word ‘amateur athlete’ or ‘student-athlete’ and that’s a crock. This is new world, we’re living in it and it’s not going to back to where we used to be.”

Williams announced he would be transferring from Oklahoma after spending just one season in Norman. Head coach Lincoln Riley making the move to USC likely caused the move.

Now, the top programs in the country will be going after the former 2021 class No. 1 overall player according to On3.

ESPN commentator: Caleb Williams entering portal changes the game

With Williams entering the portal but not ruling out a return to the Sooners, ESPN commentators Kevin Negandhi said that he has completely changed how the process works with the portal. But he added that not every player can do what Williams did.

“Let me say this, not every player can do this,” Negandhi said. “A guy like Caleb Williams can do this because of the talent he has. Coming in as a true freshman, the season he had off the bench replacing Spencer Rattler, his head coach, the reason why he was at Oklahoma, is now at USC in Lincoln Riley. He can do this kind of stuff and say, ‘Let me see what’s out there.’ I don’t think many players – players can try to – but it could backfire if they were to do this.”
