Oklahoma Sooners tight end Bauer Sharp (10) runs after a catch as Auburn Tigers take on Oklahoma Sooners at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, Ala., on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024. Oklahoma Sooners defeated Auburn Tigers 27-21.

Oklahoma tight end Bauer Sharp plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, he told On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Sharp spent just one season with the Sooners but will be on the move for the second consecutive offseason. One year of eligibility remains for Sharp after completing his fourth season of play.

Sharp played in all 12 games for Oklahoma this season and was a huge part of the offense. His 42 receptions for 324 yards were good enough to lead the Sooners in both categories. Two touchdowns were added as the tight end was a favorite target, no matter who was playing quarterback.

The production from Sharp turned out to be a lot more than expected, at least per his training. On3’s Transfer Portal Transfer Rankings had Sharp as the No. 622 overall player and No. 30 tight end. Not much went right on offense for Oklahoma this season — and Sharp had his moments — but a decent find from Brent Venables ahead of the 2024 season.

“I continue to say this I have a chip on my shoulder in everything that I do from what I come from,” Sharp said ahead of the season. “Had one offer coming out of high school to play quarterback. I have a lot to earn, a lot to prove. I’ll say that every day.

Sharp began his career at Southeast Louisiana and as mentioned, was a quarterback. A switch to tight end was made ahead of the 2022 season and the results finally showed the following year. In 11 games played in 2023, Sharp caught 25 passes for 133 yards and five touchdowns.

The numbers wound up improving while wearing an Oklahoma jersey despite the significant jump in competition level.

A redshirt year while at Southeast Louisiana is why Sharp is able to play one more year in college. One final ride will begin by attempting to find a new home for the 2025 season. The portal will officially open on Dec. 9.
