Tulsa (Okla.) NOAH Homeschool four-star EDGE Danny Okoye was eyeing a late-October commitment date prior to his visit to Oklahoma this past weekend.

Tennessee, Oklahoma, Alabama and a handful of other programs have been deeply involved in his recruitment, with many believing the Volunteers to leading for his eventual pledge. Coming out of that visit though, it’s the Sooners who are now trending in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM).

Following an expert pick from On3 national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman and Sooner Scoop’s Josh McCuistion, Oklahoma holds a 90.5 percent chance of securing his commitment. In an interview with On3 on Monday, Okoye hinted as much.

“When I dropped my top six, I already had a couple of favorites,” Okoye told Spiegelman. “After this weekend, I definitely can say that one of those has changed. Oklahoma definitely moved up.”

… When we were at Coach Venables’ house, Caleb Kelly was there talking to us, and he was talking to us about Oklahoma’s support system … It’s not just Oklahoma football; it’s based on family. Even though he couldn’t fulfill his goal of going to the NFL, Oklahoma was there to take care of him and help him achieve what he wanted in life, even if it wasn’t through football. Seeing how Coach Venables did that for one of his players and to see how he cares about the person, not just the athlete, it definitely did enough to make me consider Oklahoma more.”

Planning for a sooner decision

The No. 8 EDGE in the On300 was eyeing an October decision after official visits to Oklahoma and plans to also get back to Austin and possibly a few others.

Okoye doesn’t believe he will wait that long.

“Stay tuned,” he told Spiegelman of his decision timeline. “I don’t think it’s gonna be in October anymore. It’ll definitely be sooner.”

Danny Okoye Recruiting Profile

The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder is the No. 159 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3, however, is much higher on him than other recruiting services. In the updated On300 rankings, he was tabbed as the country’s No. 76 prospect and No. 8 EDGE.

On3’s Scouting and Rankings team writes this about him as a prospect:

“One of the more physically-gifted EDGE prospects in the 2024 cycle. Developed with a muscled, thick build. Listed at around 6-foot-4, 240 pounds. A twitchy, athletic player. Has a bunch of strength in the weight room, which transfers over to the field. An explosive pass rusher who wins with first-step quickness, speed to power and closing speed. A violent finisher behind the line of scrimmage. Finished his junior season with 16 tackles for loss. Also plays some offense and moonlights as a pass-catcher on the 7-on-7 circuit. Plays very low level competition, competing in a home school league. Will have to make a huge adjustment to the uptick in competition as he joins a Power 5 program. Older for the cycle, turning 19 years-old early on in his senior season. Will be a 20 year-old college freshman.”
