WATCH: Oklahoma wide receiver Jalil Farooq makes insane one-handed catch
Second-year wide receiver Jalil Farooq is looking to make a strong impression during spring ball for the Oklahoma Sooners. During an Oklahoma practice on Tuesday, Farooq made headlines for an impressive one-handed grab in the endzone.
On the play, Farooq lined up and later ran through the middle of the field towards the endzone. Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel then fired a ball out in front of Farooq, and the young wideout extended his right arm, holding on and bringing in an impressive catch for a touchdown.
Farooq is a former four-star wide receiver as part of the 2021 recruiting cycle. He was the 22nd rated receiver in the 2021 class and a national top 150 recruit according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average.
As a freshman at Oklahoma, Farooq played a minimal role on the offensive side of the ball. He hauled in his first career reception on October 23 against Kansas, going for five yards. In the Alamo Bowl against Oregon, Farooq was given the opportunity to see the field more, and he responded by bringing in three receptions for 64 yards. One of his catches went for 30 yards, and he averaged over 21 yards per reception in the bowl game victory.

Farooq is looking to impress the new Oklahoma regime
During his first offseason with the Oklahoma program, Farooq made an impression on former Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley. But with Riley now gone, Farooq stayed in Norman and is looking to make that same positive impression on new head coach Brent Venables.
Prior to the start of last season, Riley raved about the progression of Farooq for Oklahoma.
“Obviously, his career goes on, but even within the season. I mean, he’s going to get better and better, and I think the longer it goes on, the more he settles in, he’ll have a real chance to contribute, because he has [some tools]. Especially for a guy we never saw in person, you kind of say, ‘What’s this guy going to be like walking in the door?’ And we’ve been excited by what we’ve seen so far in camp.”
Now, Farooq is hoping that he can continue making plays throughout the spring and rest of the offseason. If he does, he could find himself on the field far more than he did as a freshman with the Sooners.
