Oklahoma wide receiver Jayden Gibson suffers knee injury, to undergo MRI
According to George Stoia of On3’s Sooner Scoop, Oklahoma wide receiver Jayden Gibson suffered a knee injury during practice on Tuesday. The severity of the injury is not yet known and Gibson will go have an MRI to get the final results.
Not the news Oklahoma wanted in fall camp as Gibson was set to play a major role in the offense.
“OU junior wide receiver Jayden Gibson suffered a knee injury in practice Tuesday and will undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury, according to SoonerScoop.com sources,” Stoia said.
Gibson is entering his third year in Norman, playing in 22 games throughout his career with one start. His true freshman season resulted in one reception for 12 yards, not doing too much. Oklahoma found Gibson to be a big-play guy in 2023 though, as the wide receiver averaged 26.8 yards per reception.
Fourteen receptions resulted in 375 yards and five touchdowns. Gibson really caught fire toward the end of the regular season, catching a touchdown in three consecutive games. A strong end to the year gave folks in Norman hope for what Gibson could provide in 2024.
Oklahoma was already planning on beginning the season down a man at wide receiver. Andrel Anthony went down with an injury during last year’s win against Texas and did not come back. While he is expected to return at some point, the Sooners do not know if it will be in time for the season opener against Temple on Aug. 30.

Jalil Farooq is also still dealing with an injury after breaking his foot in the latter stages of fall camp. Thankfully, he should be good to start the year.
Jackson Arnold explains why Oklahoma is ready for the SEC
There will be plenty of changes to the way Oklahoma has to play, moving from the Big 12 to the SEC. Quarterback Jackson Arnold recognizes that, and he singled out the trenches as a place where the Sooners have been focused on improving, believing the unsung heroes of the offensive and defensive line will need to step up.
“I feel like the guys that we’ve brought in, from either the transfer portal or the 2024 class, are really competitive, big guys that can get after it,” Arnold said, regarding the importance of the line-of-scrimmage in the SEC, and being tougher than your opponent. “Got after us today in practice, you know.
“I mean, guys like that are gonna be a big difference for us, and guys that we’ve had and we’ve developed are going to be a really big difference for us this year.”
