Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams had a day he will never forget Saturday.

With the Sooners down 28-7 after one quarter in the Red River Showdown against Texas, Williams came off the bench to lead Oklahoma to a historic comeback victory.

One day later, Williams was doing some informal recruiting of one of the best offensive line recruits in the 2022 recruiting cycle: Humble (Tex.) Atascocita four-star offensive lineman Kam Dewberry.

Dewberry was tweeting while in Dallas watching the Showdown and one tweet caught the eye of Williams this morning.

Caleb Williams made a statement Saturday

Caleb Williams was the No. 1 recruit in the country out of Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga in 2021 On300 but arrived in Norman, Okla., the backup to Spencer Rattler.

But Rattler, who entered year a favorite for the Heisman and garnering buzz as a potential first round pick, has had a forgettable junior season.

Two weeks ago, Sooners fans chanted “We want Caleb” during Oklahoma’s win over West Virginia.

After a disastrous first quarter that saw Texas score on drives of 1, 2 and 3 plays, Williams took the first snap of the second quarter — and his first snap of the game — 66 yards for the touchdown.

Rattler came out for the next two series, but after a fumble for his second turnover of the day, he was benched in favor of Williams.

The entire dynamic around the Sooners changed with the new quarterback as Williams lead the Sooners to complete the biggest comeback in the rivalry game’s history. And he did it while making one of the best plays of the season.

He finished with 212 passing yards, 88 rushing yards and three total touchdowns.

Kam Dewberry is an elite offensive lineman

Dewberry is the No. 121 overall player in the 2022 On300 and No. 89 overall prospect according to the industry-generated On3 Consensus.

Texas and Oklahoma are both in his top five schools, along with LSU, Ohio State and Texas A&M.

He told On3’s Gerry Hamilton earlier in the week that Texas was doing a great job recruiting him and he liked what he was seeing from the Longhorns offense.

But it’s clear he loved what he saw from the Sooners offense Saturday, and the opportunity to suit up and protect a player like Caleb Williams would be an incredibly exciting one.
