Oklahoma's Patty Gasso explains Sooners' approach against Clemson ace Valerie Cagle
Oklahoma’s Patty Gasso knows good softball when she sees it. That’s why, in the Sooner’s current Super Regional matchup against Clemson, she is trying to get her team to stay after it against a difficult pitcher in the Tiger’s Valerie Cagle.
Gasso applauded Cagle’s efforts in an in-game interview with the ESPN2 broadcast. She said the best advice that she gave her team in order to compete against Cagle was to remain aggressive and stay that way in order to keep her thinking.
“I think we just try to stay aggressive early,” Gasso said. “She’s got so many good, moving pitches. (It) keeps you off balance. We’ve just gotta be aggressive early. That’s the best plan for us right now.”
Through three innings of work, Cagle has only given up one hit and one earned run to the high-powered Sooners. It may be early still as the game heads to the fourth inning but, against the program that leads the nation in batting average and home runs, it’s been an outing full of good work so far for the junior out of Yorktown, Virginia.

For Gasso and Oklahoma, they’re not about to let Cagle mess with their rhythm too much inside Marita Hynes Field. Still, in order to secure a 1-0 lead in the Norman Super Regional, they’ll have to outthink Cagle down the stretch and hold onto their current 2-0 lead.
Oklahoma baseball stunned by Texas Tech in ninth inning
All the right moves were made by Oklahoma until they weren’t.
Gut-punch. Crushing. Hard result to swallow. Pick one. They all fit.
Texas Tech rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth Thursday night at Globe Life Field as Kevin Bazzell walked it off 10-9 to send Oklahoma to a sixth Bedlam showdown of the year against Oklahoma State on Friday. This time the Sooners postseason lives will be on the line.
That’s the way baseball goes. That’s the way baseball has gone (this season).
“We lost momentum of the game. Didn’t play defense,” Oklahoma head coach Skip Johnson said. “When you don’t get your outs on time you struggle to win baseball games.
“Give the momentum to the other team. That’s basically what happened.”
