On3 Roundtable: Shane Beamer, Josh Heupel at the center of storylines with Oklahoma's 2024 schedule

Over on the On3 YouTube channel, JD PicKell was recently joined by Eddie Radosevich of Sooner Scoop for the On3 Roundtable to break down all things Oklahoma in regards to their new 2024 SEC schedule. The most intriguing part, per Radosevich and PicKell, is Oklahoma hosting a South Carolina program that currently has a ton of OU ties, including their current QB.

“If only Spencer Rattler was staying around one more year and coming back to Norman,” said PicKell. “Like, that would have been just, I mean, the storyline itself would have been unbelievable. But even so, it should still be a lot of fun to watch.”

Radosevich then chimed in with a bit of a zinger: “He’d actually be booed this time because he’s on the opposing team and not because he’s on the home team,” noting that Rattler was booed off the field towards the end of his OU tenure. “That was kind of the beginning of the end for the Spencer Rattler era against West Virginia when he got booed. But yeah, that’d be a lot of fun.”

Alas, it’s not meant to be as Rattler will be gone by the time the Gamecocks and Sooners finally meet on the football field — unless, by some chance, they clash in a bowl game this coming winter.

Next, the guys moved on to discuss some former members of the Oklahoma coaching staff that OU will now face as head coaches in the SEC — and some very good ones at that.

“And then I think everybody to a man loves Shane Beamer and what he gave Oklahoma for a couple of years when he was in Norman,” added Radosevich. “So, it’ll be a lot of fun to, kind of get that, I guess, not rivalry, but just get that relationship built back up. And, you know, I think just for me personally, it would be good to see Beamer again. Yeah, (he) has to be one of the most likable figures in all of college football.”

He also pointed out that Tennessee coach Josh Heupel was once on the Sooner staff, where things may not have ended so great for him.

“And, you know, the, the Josh Heupel thing is really interesting too, just with how all that ended with Oklahoma. You know, Bob Stoops will never say that he actually fired him, but he, for the most part got fired. And, you know what he’s been able to build in Knoxville here over the last couple of years. It should be a lot of fun.”

Though the SEC offers a new frontier for Oklahoma, they will be seeing some familiar faces on opposing sidelines starting next fall.
