Otega Oweh, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard out of Blairstown (N.J.) Blair Academy has committed to Oklahoma basketball for the class of 2022, he tells On3.

Oweh is the Sooners’ first commitment of the class. Oklahoma is also targeting Milos Uzan, Rylan Griffen, among others.

Oweh chose the Oklahoma Sooners over Miami, Penn State, Illinois, among others.

Otega Oweh on why he chose Oklahoma

“When I went on the visit, I just felt so comfortable,” Oweh said. “I didn’t want to leave when I went down there. I blended in with the staff and the players immediately. Coach (Porter) Moser is a great coach. He’s known for development and just making his team and his players better. I want to be in that type of system.”

What was the coaching staff’s recruiting pitch to Oweh?

“The way they’re trying to play is the way I play pretty much,” Oweh said. “Even with my high school team, we have similar play styles and the overall culture is the same as what Coach Moser’s is trying to build at Oklahoma.”

What does Oweh expect his role to be as a freshman?

“I have high expectations for myself,” Oweh said. “The role they told me I would have was that I’d be able to play immediately and also make an impact. I’m willing to do that any way possible, whether that’s on the defensive end, just being an energy guy….whatever it is. I’m just going to go in there and work my tail off.”
