Longtime OU linebacker commit Kip Lewis seems to be on board with the Sooners.

New Oklahoma coach Brent Venables has made securing players already committed to the Sooners recruiting priority No. 1 since he was hired. And next on his list was four-star linebacker Kip Lewis of Carthage, Texas.

Venables made an in-home visit with the four-star linebacker on Thursday. Lewis, who is 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds, shared a picture from the visit with a caption seemingly indicating there’s no need for OU to worry about his pledge.

Kip Lewis looks locked in with OU

Kip Lewis, who was named his district’s most valuable player on Wednesday, has been committed to the Sooners since April. However, he did raise some eyebrows with a Nov. 30 tweet saying he might be looking around.

“At this time, I’m committed to OU, but I do have decisions to make before signing day,” Lewis said in the tweet.

But after the visit, it appears the decision is made and he’s staying true with the Sooners.

Kip Lewis is the No. 257 player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also ranks as the No. 29 linebacker and the 43rd-best player in the Lone Star State.

Kip Lewis originally picked the Sooners over Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Texas and Missouri.

The Sooners currently have 12 commitments in the 2022 class. The headliners are four-star cornerback Gentry Williams of Tulsa Booker T. Washington and four-star running back Gavin Sawchuk of Littleton (Colo.) Valor Christian.

Williams said on Wednesday he is still working toward a final decision between the Sooners and Arkansas. The Hogs have made a major push after Lincoln Riley departed for USC.

The Sooners’ class currently ranks No. 12 in the On3 Consensus Football Team Ranking. The Sooners are also second in the Big 12 Conference behind the Longhorns.
