Oklahoma (11-6) earned a 77-76 win over West Virginia (10-7) Saturday but head coach Porter Moser received his first technical foul.

Moser was heated after arguing a charging call on Tanner Groves in the first half and with the tech, it was the second straight game Oklahoma had a technical foul. Based on the reaction from Moser, it was hard to blame the Sooners coach since the team had a -47 free throw differential going into the game.

Moser was not the only one handed a technical during the game as West Virginia coach Bob Huggins was also guilty.

“I don’t love getting technicals,” Moser said. “It’s not who I am, and it just happened. Like my assistant told me we had to move on, and that’s what we had to do. I mean, I know coach Huggins doesn’t like getting technicals, but it just happens.”

Moser was also asked if a technical foul called on him could actually fire up his squad, particularly if the Sooners are in a lull.

“It happened in Lawrence,” Moser said. “You wanted that quote.”

Despite Moser saying it worked against the Kansas Jayhawks, Oklahoma fell short of an upset, losing 79-75 on the road Jan. 10.

Despite the nail biting victory over West Virginia, the Sooners led wire to wire.

“You can’t ask for anything more than doing it [get the win} and to get the confidence to pulling it out on the close ones,” Moser said. “Two out of three, we have done it. Kansas went their way, but Texas Tech we end up pulling it out.”

Oklahoma was big at the free throw line as well, including Grant Sherfield going nine-of-11 from the charity stripe.

“Bottom line, he wants to get to the foul line at the end,” Moser said. “He is an outstanding free throw shooter. Getting to the line is a big thing for him. He is good and at the end of the game it gives us all confidence.”

Oklahoma turns around Wednesday for a rivalry matchup with Oklahoma State in Stillwater at 9:00 p.m ET. However, the schedule does not get any easier with the four games following a match up with the Sooners’ in-state foe.
