Porter Moser breaks down game-winning play vs. Oklahoma State
The Oklahoma–Oklahoma State rivalry experienced quite the sendoff game as the visiting Sooners cashed in at the buzzer in overtime to seal a victory.
At the current moment, there’s no plans in place to continue the basketball edition of Bedlam once Oklahoma moves onto the SEC, although it wouldn’t be too tough considering how many more non-conference games basketball teams play compared to football. Regardless, OSU and OU don’t appear on track to play each other next season, meaning that Javian McCollum’s game winner is the final shot in the rivalry until who knows when.
Take a look at this beauty. Arguably the shot of the season in college hoops so far:
It may not look like it, but there was a clear plan in place from head coach Porter Moser on that final play before McCollum had to take the possession into his own hands. He explained afterward that the Sooners had to prepare for multiple looks from the Cowboy defense but did want to isolate McCollum.
“Yeah, well, you know, the time before they came out in a zone, so we had two actions to come to do that we didn’t know if they were going to be in a zone. They came out in man. Earlier in the overtime, we ran an action where we just cleared the left slot and had Javian go down the slot. So we ran the same action.
“I think that we had two actions ready. You know, one zone, one man. The man one, we got him to the rim last the time before and that’s where we wanted the ball at the end of the half.”

But McCollum clearly wasn’t able to get going downhill and attack the rim with his last shot attempt, for which Moser credits the Oklahoma State defense.
“I thought they guarded it well, they leveled him off, and that’s hard to do with Javiann because he’s so quick.”
As great as they guarded the play, though, an elite offensive player in McCollum just went out and made a tremendous play.
“And then, Javian made a great shot,” Moser added. “He’s an elite free throw shooter, he’s our best shot-maker. You know, in practices and all year, he has that ability to make tough shots, and I mean, that was a very tough shot. It was a great play by Javon to to to cap off an amazing game.”
What a way for Bedlam to go out. Pure chaos!
