Oklahoma is struggling in a talented Big 12 as it tries to play its way back into NCAA Tournament position. However, to get there, Porter Moser needs to get better play and fewer fouls from the Sooners’ big men during the stretch run.

Porter Moser explained why he needs big men to limit their fouls while speaking to the media after practice.

“It’s exactly the message we talked to them about,” Moser said.

“I go, you can’t have mindless fouls. You might get a foul, you get a foul, but you can’t have mindless ones like he just two hands grabbed a guard on a back cut and he just came down on an offensive rebound looking at the thing and he just ran over a guy.”

Porter Moser is talking specifically about Tanner Groves here, largely due to the position he’s in on the team this season.

“He’s too important to us, especially the fact that I’m redshirting one big and the other big is out. Now, I’m down to Sam [Godwin] and him. We need him on the floor. Same with Sam. Sam had a play where we normally reach for the lights and he came down like this and he got a foul,” Moser said.

“I talked to both of them. You’ve got to be smarter. We can’t have 10 fouls. One guy at 11 one guy at 13 fouled out, and so the message has been sent. We talked to him a lot about it. He’s just got to be smarter. You know, you’re going to get some fouls but you can’t have the silly fouls. That’s the message.”

Joe Lunardi says Oklahoma’s upset over Alabama isn’t enough

ESPN Bracketology expert Joe Lunardi still has Oklahoma on the outside looking in at the NCAA Tournament, even with a huge win over Alabama.

“That’s not going to be enough, I don’t think at the end of the day,” Joe Lunardi said.

“Unless they can pick up a game or two somewhere along the road that they’re not supposed to. WVU maybe an opportunity but they didn’t post.”
