Court-storming has become the talk of college basketball after Kyle Filipowski left the court injured following Duke‘s loss to Wake Forest on Saturday. People from across the country have said their piece on the topic, with opinions varying. Oklahoma head coach Porter Moser gave his thoughts on Tuesday, saying the action has to be stopped.

“It’s got to stop,” Moser said. “You see the entitlement of what people that storm the court can do. Poking at them. It’s just, there’s no room for it. It’s a sport that part of what makes the sport great is that it’s right on top of you. But there’s got to be a boundary now. There’s got to be a boundary. I think you’ll see steps being taken now.”

Moser has been a part of a courtstorming since taking over in Norman. Oklahoma hosted Alabama last season and blew out the No. 2 team in the country in the Big 12/SEC Challenge. Students flooded onto the floor to celebrate the win, a huge one for Moser at the time.

The issues with fans have gone further than coming onto the court, though. Moser says players are having to deal with things being said to them by people sitting in the lower level. And if you’re on the road, it’s usually not too kind.

“You’re seeing it with some of the things that are said to these athletes too,” Moser said. “You’re in such close proximity. We’ve talked about it as coaches that some of the things that are said are crossing the line as well. I think there’s an entitlement there that, unfortunately, it has to stop. There are boundaries. A player cannot feel unsafe going back to the locker room after a game. He just can’t. He cannot feel unsafe trying to get back to the locker room.”

Filipowski’s incident has really rocked college basketball, mainly due to the injury. However, Iowa‘s Caitlin Clark had to deal with an Ohio State fan following a loss. She came away unscathed and did not miss any time on the court.

After seeing those two instances, Moser has changed his mind about court-storming. After previously thinking there could be a safe way to maneuver the tradition, he believes it’s time to abolish it.

As you know, a couple of months ago, I was trying to like, how can we make this work? I think I’ve changed my tune. I think we’re just going to have to eliminate them,” Moser said.
