Porter Moser credits Oklahoma for bouncing back from ‘low point’
Porter Moser said Oklahoma hit a low point – one he says that they needed, though – to end last week after dropping to 0-4 in the SEC.
Following the 20-point win over South Carolina this weekend, Moser noted what the two days were like for the Sooners after their 77-73 loss to Texas on Wednesday. He said how hard it was and how hard they all took it with them having lost four straight after winning thirteen in a row to start the season.
“Tough. It was tough. It was, um – I was. You know, you’re going to have, in this profession, you know, low points,” Moser said. “We were all miserable. Everybody was miserable. I mean, I can’t tell you this. It’s part of what we do. We’re in that arena and the world of this in college sports and it was a really hard low point that game, walking off that floor.”
Still, after the rivalry loss to the Longhorns, OU went back to it. They got to practice during the next two days and got after it heading into Saturday’s game against the Gamecocks.
“After the practice the next day? A lot of times, we don’t go live. We went live. We went live and guarded. We wanted to get that taste out of our mouth. I said, in a weird way, I’m more encouraged right now because we didn’t coach effort, we didn’t coach energy. We coached execution. We coached different things and the guys responded, you know,” said Moser. “Really huge Thursday and Friday.”

So, after a winless start to league play, Oklahoma won their first game since the turn of the calendar by a final score of 82-62 over South Carolina. It was close early but the Sooners ended it on a 35-15 run over the final dozen minutes. Jalon Moore (22 points, eight rebounds) and Jeremiah Fears (16 points, nine rebounds, eight assists) led in the victory individually as the team as a whole shot better than 47% from the field and three while winning the glass, in turnovers, in the paint, and on the fast break.
Oklahoma finally got one in the win column as part of the Southeastern Conference. Now, in the most difficult league in the country, they’ll need to keep getting better to turn one into two and so on in improving their current standing over the next month and a half.
“The guys stayed together. We believe. We just needed that. We needed that,” said Moser. “That narrative? Get over with. We got an SEC win. Let’s go. Let’s start stacking wins. Let’s start playing better so we can stack wins.”
