Porter Moser knows Oklahoma must beef up their resume if they hope to make it to March. Luckily, they did just that with a huge victory over No. 9 Texas Tech on Wednesday. When the Red Raiders traveled to Norman, they didn’t expect to get beat 70-55 by the unranked Sooners.

Still, Moser’s team showed what they could be. Afterwards, the Sooners coach discussed what the upset over Texas Tech means for Oklahoma’s resume.

“It’s huge,” stated Moser. “And that’s what I kept on saying — we just got to stay positive. You know, it’s literally the most elite schedule — night in and night out — playing in the Big 12. Then, we had Auburn in there. So we’re playing elite teams.

“We just stay with it. Every games an opportunity, every games an opportunity. Put this one in the bank, and we got to go get another one. But we needed that. We needed it. A signature win at this time after losing a handful in a row. I think Texas Tech is one of the best teams in the country, I really do. And it gives our guys confidence that we can play forty minutes, and win. I thought we had our best game of playing forty minutes in a long time.”

Now, the Sooners have a golden opportunity over their next two games. With their tournament chances slim, the Sooners face No. 8 Kansas and No. 20 Texas over the next two times they hit the hardwood. If they can shock their Big 12 rivals, Oklahoma will continue to boost their resume immensely.

Porter Moser reacts to Mo Gibson’s 30-point effort vs. Texas Tech

The Sooners rode the hot-hand of guard Umoja Gibson — who scored 30 points — to the upset of Texas Tech. Afterwards, Porter Moser reacted to Gibson’s insane effort in his post-game press conference.

“It’s huge,” Moser stated, regarding Gibson’s 30 points. “You know what I love about Mo — he was 0 for 6 at Oklahoma State. And he took it to heart. I thought Mo’s defense was very good tonight. I know he had 30, but I thought he had very good defense. Played 36 minutes. He had to play some point guard. Had to guard bigger guys, everybody was 6’6” or bigger, it seemed like. I thought he had a great defensive game.

“But, he came back from Oklahoma State and does what he always does — got in the gym. Got in the gym, got reps up. Didn’t panic. Went to work. He works on that shot-fake, sidestep three all the time. I mean, he makes that in practice, he works on it. And I thought we were moving the ball really well. You have to against Texas Tech. But the one things is, even when we had a comfortable — the first half, fourteen points, sixteen points off turnovers — and we settled down. The second half, they only had two points. But I thought we defended and rebounded for 40 minutes. I thought that’s been a key. That was really good.

“But I thought Mo’s performance — on both ends — he was a two-way player tonight.”

As you can see, Moser believes what the rest of us saw — Gibson was fantastic on Wednesday. With showdowns against Kansas and Texas on the horizon, Oklahoma will need repeat performances out of their star if they’re looking to add some more upset victories to their resume.
