Porter Moser reveals injured guard's injury, playing status vs. Kansas
On Wednesday, Oklahoma freshman guard Bijan Cortes was unavailable during the Sooners’ victory over Texas Tech due to an undisclosed injury. Afterwards, coach Porter Moser revealed the injury, and whether Cortes would be available for their next game — a Big 12 showdown with Kansas on Saturday.
“I doubt it, because he’s in that five-day concussion protocol,” stated Moser, regarding Cortes’ status for Oklahoma’s upcoming game against Kansas. “It’s a concussion. Today, he didn’t have headaches. Like, that’s good. You can start to get out of your protocol. As of right now, we don’t think there’s any chance. We don’t think the five days will be up.”
While Oklahoma took care of business against Texas Tech without Cortes, his presence will be missed if he can’t go at Allen Fieldhouse. The Sooners will be looking to pull a huge upset, and it’ll need an all hands on deck effort to do so.
On the season, Cortes has appeared in 22 games for Oklahoma. Averaging 12.5 minutes per game, the freshman is scoring 2.2 points per game. Additionally, Cortes is averaging 1.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. His best performance of the season came against Baylor, when the guard scored six points, dished out five assists and pulled down three rebounds.
More on Bijan Cortes, Oklahoma Sooners
It’s been an uneven season for Bijan Cortes and the Oklahoma Sooners, but the Big 12 squad found their biggest win of the season on Wednesday. As Texas Tech continued to climb the rankings, Porter Moser’s squad knocked the Red Raiders down a peg.

Leading the way was guard Umoja Gibson, who scored 30 points in the victory. Additionally, guard Elijah Harkless contributed as well, scoring 13 points and pulling down three rebounds. Still, it was Gibson’s performance that led to Oklahoma knocking off Texas Tech.
Now, the Sooners have a golden opportunity over their next two games. With their tournament chances dwindling, the Sooners face No. 8 Kansas and No. 20 Texas over the next two times they hit the hardwood. If they can shock their Big 12 rivals, Oklahoma will boost their resume immensely.
However, Kansas isn’t happy — coming off an upset at the hands of Texas on Monday. The Jayhawks will be looking to get-right against the Sooners. As tough as it is to go into Lawrence and beat Kansas already, it’s going to be even more difficult.
Oklahoma likely won’t have Bijan Cortes against Kansas — and possibly Texas — but the Sooners proved against Texas Tech they can still find the will to get a victory. We’ll see if Oklahoma can do it all over again.
