Another offseason in Norman brings more rumors about Porter Moser. Continually linked with other coaching jobs, Moser still finds himself as the Oklahoma head coach. All this despite being connected with the likes of Villanova and most recently, Texas A&M.

Moser was once again asked about his future Thursday on The Zach Gelb Show. He decided to send a message to Oklahoma fans with his belief in what the program can become. Some more “resources” are wanted by Moser but he says things are moving in the right direction.

“The people in Oklahoma are special,” Moser said. “It’s one of the greatest places I’ve lived. It’s just, you’re fighting to get the resources right. And we are. We’re moving in that right direction… There’s such opportunities that, such a high vision of what we can do being in this SEC. We’re looking forward to it.”

Any college basketball hot seat story entering the 2024-2025 season certainly had Moser on there. After three seasons, the Sooners had no NCAA Tournament appearances. Oklahoma thought they would have been included in 2024 but fell victim to bid stealers, leading to Selection Sunday heartbreak.

Moving into the SEC meant there would be no easy task to making the postseason in year No. 4. Moser finally accomplished the goal, though. Oklahoma finished with a 20-14 overall record and 6-12 against SEC opponents. Taking down Georgia in Nashville was enough to comfortably get Moser’s club into the field.

Unfortunately, their NCAA Tournament lives were short. Oklahoma lost in the first round to UConn as a nine-seed. The program is searching for its first advancement since 2021. A Final Four in 2016 with Buddy Heild leading the way was OU’s last time making it out of the first weekend.

Based on his comments, Moser wants to help Oklahoma get there. The call for resource help continues, something he has been advocating for since the season ended. Between the NCAA transfer portal and recruiting at the high school level, the Sooners have been quite active.

However, it does appear that rumors are going to continue to swirl. The Villanova job was filled after Kevin Willard left Maryland. Texas A&M is open because Buzz Williams decided to fill Willard’s shoes in College Park.

Everything Moser says points toward him remaining a Sooner for the 2025-2026 season. Encouraging words for Oklahoma and athletic director Joe Castiglione after finally making the NCAA Tournament breakthrough.
