Porter Moser saw the Bedlam game get away from Oklahoma in a 72-56 loss to rival Oklahoma State.

Usually Oklahoma is solid in the second half, but this time the Cowboys came out flying. Moser chalked it up to Oklahoma State playing with confidence while the Sooners seemed shell shocked.

“I saw that Oklahoma State team that just played with their confidence (and) just exploded,” Moser said. “And Newton came out, hit that three to start the half. And then I think they scored five out of six, maybe six out of seven, maybe it’s 25 or 26, whatever it was possessions in a row our defense. We’ve been pretty good.

“Starting the second half we were trying to win the second half and our defense and to start it, you could just see their competence go when they would hit a three. Thought Bryce was terrific hitting shots. They all were there. You just saw the confidence come through and they went on a great run and completely dominated the second half.”

As far as what went wrong and how it got away from Oklahoma, Moser kept it simple.

“We couldn’t get stops,” Moser said. “I mean, we couldn’t get stops. It’s the first game in a while that some of us let our offense dictate our defense. You gotta have five guys in this league. You gotta have five guys connected on defense. I gotta give Oklahoma State a lot of credit. You know, as mad as I am right now, you gotta give, I mean, they were terrific.

“They were really terrific, they were clicking on all cylinders, they were rolling, they were shooting, they were going downhill playing with tremendous confidence and effort. So you got to give them a lot of credit. They played outstanding on both ends and the second half.”

Oklahoma has a quick turnaround in the Big 12 and can’t dwell on the rivalry loss for too long.

“And so yeah, I’m disappointed that it got away from us,” Moser said. “You know, without a question, you know, (that performance) wasn’t indicative of our defense. And they, we gave them some confidence and they just rolled with it and you gotta give them credit (for) that.”
