Oklahoma basketball coach Porter Moser knows what to expect from the fans when he heads to Gallagher-Iba Arena on Wednesday for a Bedlam matchup against Oklahoma State. After coaching his first Bedlam game last season, Moser saw firsthand just how rowdy the Cowboys crowd can be.

OSU students had extra fuel to troll the Cowboys last year thanks to both OU leaving the Big 12 for the SEC and the recent departure of football coach Lincoln Riley. As Moser thought back on the atmosphere from a year ago, that was what stuck out to him.

“Last year, it was all about the SEC and coach Riley,” he said. “I mean, they were killing us. They had newspapers. Everything was about the SEC and coach Riley leaving. I think that’s died down, so we’ll see.”

Porter Moser went on to comment on how close the Oklahoma State student section is to the court, say he has never experienced a venue like that before. The coach complimented the Cowboys fans for their sportsmanship in his last visit, but also said he knows they’re still going to do everything they can to make things difficult on the Sooners.

“The other thing I remember is sitting there and my back was right here and I think I could touch the students,” he said. “My wife was there and they were very gracious to my wife and family. But I don’t know if I’ve had a student section that I can high-five. I was high-fiving the students. They probably didn’t like it, but they were right there. They’re literally right on top of you. They’re right there in the end zone.

“But they were great fans. I didn’t see anything out of line. They were right on top of you, but they were just pulling for their team and killing us about the SEC.”

Oklahoma lost last year’s contest in Stillwater 64-55, but made up for it with a win in Norman later in the season. Wednesday’s game will provide a chance at revenge for Moser and the Sooners, as well as an opportunity to move up in the conference standings.

If OU is to come out victorious, it will likely lean on guard Grant Sherfield, who leads the team with 17.6 points per game. In a limited sample size of three road games this season, Sherfield has actually seen that average move up slightly to 19 points per game, and will hope that continues.

Tip off between the Sooners and Cowboys is set for 8 p.m. CT.
